The Color Green
by James Masters
Nature/Order
In the traditional Pride Flag, the color green represents nature, while in the Twelve Powers, green symbolizes order. Although nature may seem chaotic at times, a closer look at its various aspects, such as biology and astronomy, reveals a rhythm and flow to life. We are an integral part of this interconnected system.
Nature is not an external entity; rather, it encompasses the very system we are part of, and our actions as humans have a profound impact on the natural world. Recognizing this allows us to take responsibility for our choices and their consequences.
Environmentalism
In the American consumer-driven society, there exists a mindset that often disconnects us from the natural world. We have enormous waste disposal sites, and many people give little thought to the fate of their waste once it leaves their homes. However, it is essential to remember that there is no such place as "away." When we dispose of something, we are merely shifting its location within the system.
There are several ways we can reduce our impact on the planet. Composting food waste minimizes greenhouse gas emissions, while recycling waste products conserves land and water resources. By taking these simple actions, we can make a positive difference in the natural world.
Order
For Charles Fillmore, one of the founders of Unity and the conceptualizer of the Twelve Powers, order represented our ability as humans to adjust and organize our thought patterns. It is associated with spiritual law. Every creative activity begins within the mind, and order enables us to structure our minds in creative ways. Through order, our understanding and awareness can evolve, building upon the ideas of our predecessors.
Consider the example of Stone Age hunters and gatherers who inhabited a planet with the resources necessary for manufacturing airplanes. Everything needed to fly was already available, but they didn’t know how to put them together. Order allows us to restructure our consciousness in ways that empower us to work with nature in creative and innovative ways. We can also use this concept to have a positive impact on our planet.
We find ourselves in an era where the power of order is imperative for the survival of our planet and species. By utilizing this power, we can deepen our understanding of our oneness with nature and use it to mitigate the harm we may inadvertently cause through our actions.
An affirmation for Nature/Order:
I am one with all of Life. My life is balanced and in order. All is well.
