Sue Baggett-Day

Spiritual Leader of Unity of Springfield

Sue began attending Unity of Springfield in March, 1988, and like many who have attended over the years, she knew she had found her spiritual home. She became the Secretary/ Administrator in February, 1995.

Having been involved for many years in all aspects of the ministry, including performing many ministerial duties such as counseling and delivering the Sunday messages, Sue then stepped into the role of Spiritual Leader in January, 2006. She became a Licensed Unity Teacher (L.U.T.) in 2007.

Ministering is Sue’s absolute passion and joy. She also loves music and enjoys singing. Two of Sue’s greatest joys are her grandsons, Rylee and Deklyn.

Dee Richardson
Church Administrator

Dee knows that she is living her “purpose.” As Administrative Assistant to the Senior Minister at Unity Church of Overland Park, KS, and Licensed Unity Teacher (since 1996), serving in Branson, MO, Dee’s experiences prepared her well for her current position as Administrator of Unity of Springfield.

Dee enjoys doing a Sunday lesson now and then, teaching Unity classes, and using her skills in organization to effectively manage the day-to-day affairs of the church. Her hobby is stamping to create greeting cards, which she gifts to the church to send to congregants. Dee recently began tap-dancing classes after a 50-year hiatus.

Dee has four grown children, three in Springfield, and one in Chicago. All six of her grandchildren are here in Springfield. Her dog, Hazel, a Sheltie/Poodle mix, occasionally accompanies her to work.

John Russ

Music Director

John Russ was born in Washington, DC, and grew up near Andrews Air Force Base. His family moved to Springfield in 1974, and he attended Kickapoo High School and SMSU before moving to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music in 1985. He lived in Boston until returning to Springfield in 2001, and has been working at American National Insurance since 2002, currently as a Quality Assurance auditor.

He found Unity in 2014, after discussing his spiritual ideas with a friend. He finds the five principles empowering. He is involved with the band, and has helped out with many other activities. Unity has helped him grow as a spiritual being, and he is interested in expanding his involvement by working with others to come up with creative solutions to business problems.

James is on Unity’s “Licensed Unity Teacher” path. He is also a contributing author for the bestselling anthologies, “The Courageous Heart,” “Enduring Wisdom,” & “The Grateful Soul.”

James is also deeply passionate about providing shelter, food, and clothing to the vulnerable population within our local community.

His knowledge of technology and compassion for others is a significant contribution to our community.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees at Unity of Springfield is a dedicated group of elected individuals who serve as leaders and representatives of our community. Comprising members voted in by the congregation, the Board of Trustees is entrusted with the governance and strategic direction of the church.
